Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist
Dated seventh month, guihai year (1563)
Calligraphy by Wen Peng (1498-1573) on top of the painting, signed with two seals
Dated autumn, guihai year of the Jiajing period (1563)
Nine collectors’ seals, including five of Emperor Qianlong (reigned 1736-1796)
NOTE:
An almost identical painting, Ode to the Pipa Song by Wen Jia but without collectors’ seals, is in the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing.
