Lot Essay
In the years 1905-1910 Willem van Konijnenburg made an important change in his way of depicting landscapes. Not the subject itself changed, but the style and atmosphere became more classical. The present lot is an excellent example of this transitional period. An almost monumental stylistic representation of a heardsman with his cattle, apparently a normal Dutch scene, but with hazy Italian light. In setting almost impossible to determine.
