Lot Essay

The hospital of Saint Paul at Saint-Rémy became well known because Vincent van Gogh made several paintings in and from the hospital when he stayed there from May 1889 until May 1890 to recover from his illness. Oepts lived most of his life in the south of France and this picture of the door of the hospital can be seen as an ode to Van Gogh
