FIRST EDITION IN HARDBACK, thirty-third edition overall. Published at 2/- the hardback was double the price of a paper bound copy; the bright display of gilt will have attracted eyes to shop windows, while covers made to endure also avoided the need for rebinding. The photoplate, hitherto split between five or more players, is devoted to W.G. Grace, the subject of a long feature article. A.C. Maclaren’s feats in 1895 are prominently reported, and the triumphs of Stoddart’s team in Australia make for uplifting reading. In the present copy Roger Hancock’s larger bookplate conceals most of the advertising text on the front pastedown. Viewers are asked to handle pp. 47-48 carefully to avoid extending the tear.
