The Property of Herbert and Bernard Gadney by direct descent This collection of Wisden, a complete run from 1864 to 2014, was started by Herbert Gadney (1874-1946) whose antiquarian bookshop was at 2-3 Turl Street, Oxford; living in Polstead Road, he was the neighbour and friend of T.E. Lawrence. His son Bernard Gadney (1909-2000), an England rugby football captain and scrumhalf, and later preparatory school headmaster, continued the collection. Awarded 14 international caps, he began the move which led to Prince Alexander Obolensky's try at Twickenham against the All Blacks in 1936, still considered to be the greatest try ever on that ground; his is the first name on Twickenham Museum's Rugby Wall of Fame. The collection has since passed by direct descent to the present owner.
