YOUNG, Sir William (1749-1815). An Account of the Black Charaibs in the Island of St. Vincent's; with the Charaib Treaty of 1773 and other Original Documents. London: J. Sewell, and Knight and Triphook, 1795. 8° (215 x 130mm). Folding table, sewing holes visible in inner margins, date to title corrected in manuscript. (Title and dedication short in lower margin, light spotting to endpapers.) Contemporary half-calf (rebacked, corners worn).
First edition of Sir William Young's account of the Black Caribs, the descendants of those shipwrecked from an African Slaver in 1675, on the island of Bequia, south of St. Vincent. Young's work was published soon after the insurrection of the Caribs against the British authorities in St Vincent. Sabin 106124.
