ZAPF, Georg Wilhelm (1747-1810) -- Bibliotheca historico-litteraria Zafiana. Sive Catalogus Librorum Historiam rei litterariae illustrantium... Augsburg, 1792.

8o ( 192 x 124 mm). 19th-century German cloth-backed marbled boards, green morocco lettering piece (some browning and spotting, some very minor marginal dampstaining at end). Provenance: A. Bernuz (signature and price from Claudin); Ernst Schulz (signature dated 1928); Albert Hämmerle (stamp on title).

Fixed price catalogue of the bibliographical library formed by Zapf, one of the foremost 18th-century bibliographers and an authority on incunabula. The catalogue documents one of the greatest reference libraries of the day, and "deserves special commendation. Since Zapf himself prepared the catalogue and set the prices of the books, the Zapfiana is both accurate and informative...the Zapfiana contains more than four hundred catalogues. These are chiefly German catalogues that are in general rather poorly recorded by German and other bibliographers" (Taylor, p. 197). The Augsburg bookseller Christoph Friedrich Bürglen supervised the dispersal of the collection. Blogie V, col. 312; not in Pollard-Ehrman.
