CHINE, DYNASTIE DES ZHOU OCCIDENTAUX (CIRCA 1100-771 AP JC.)
The vessel is cast with mythical beast mask loop handles, and a diamond-and-dot design on the globular body. The interior is incised with an archaic inscription which can be translated as '(someone named) Ge wang ... nu ... made this precious vessel for ... Gudingding'; restorations.
7 1/8 in. (18 cm.) diam.
Acquired in the 1950s by the present owner.
