(Lower margin of first quire repaired just touching a few letters, minor repaired tears in a few leaves.) Contemporary ?Spanish black blind-tooled sheep, sides preserved in deep purple crushed morocco by Brugalla, 1945, gilt supralibros edges, spine lettering, turn-ins and edges. FIRST EDITION of a practical and theoretical work intended for artists and artisans on metallurgy, assaying, minting, and working gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and other precious stones. Arfe was a goldsmith, sculptor, designer, assayer of the mint at Segovia, and an important figure in the development of the 'Plateresque'.
