AUGSBURG 1717 - ROTH, Johann Michael. Augspurgische Reformations Jubel-Feyer, Das ist Allerhand inventirte Kupffer-Stiche, welche Im Jahre Christi 1717 auf das von einer Hohen Obrigkeit allhier verordnete wegen des Anno 1517 angefangenen Reformations-Werckes, mit Danck und Preiss zu celebrirende Jubel-Fest, von unterschiedenen Künstlern dieses Ortes in Kupfer gestochen Jetzund aber nach öffters verlangten Collection zusammen in diesem Werck erschienen. Augsburg, 1717.
Large 2o (486 x 350 mm). Engraved title, engraved preface by the editor "Anrede des Editoris dieses Wercks," 2 engraved folding plates, and 11 engraved plates engraved on recto and verso (one with 4 small overslips). (Some tears and marginal chipping repaired.) Contemporary blue upper wrapper preserved in modern quarter vellum. Provenance: Library of the St. Anna Gymnasium in Augsburg ("Gymnasium evangelicum ad D. Annae cum biliotheca public." printed paper label on upper cover of wrapper).
Augsburg's bicentennial celebration of Reformation day, 31 October 1517, when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses on the door of the Schlosskirche in Wittenberg. The engravings were presumably first issued individually. According to the title page, this collection was produced due to popular demand.
