BIBLE, in English -- The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments; newly translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised, by His Majesty's Special Command. Cambridge: Joseph Bentham for the University, 1762. 2 volumes, 4° in-8s (304 x 236mm). Engraved frontispiece. Ruled in red throughout. Woodcut tailpiece at end of vol. 1. (Occasional very light browning.) Contemporary blue morocco, sides panelled with rolls, fillets and corner ornaments, central red morocco gilt oval with the initials of the Society of Jesus, gilt spines, marbled endpapers and edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Wigley and Wicksted families (2½ pages of genealogical information in ink mansucript dated 1795-1918 on flyleaves).
