Contemporary red morocco gilt borders and cyphers in center of both covers, gilt spine (lightly wear at extremities, small staines). THE PEIRESC-YATES THOMPSON-RAHIR COPY. Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc was a renowned astronomer and patron of science, whose books are adorned by his distinctive Greek cypher; Yates Thompson was considered the greatest manuscript collector of his generation; and Edward Rahir's collection was legendary, dispersed in a series of sales in 1931.
