Contemporary red morocco gilt borders and cyphers in center of both covers, gilt spine (lightly wear at extremities, small staines). Provenance: Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc (1580-1637; binding) -- Henry Yates Thompson (1838-1929; bookplate) -- Edward Rahir (bookplate, 1898) -- Thore Virgin, 1911 (bookplate) -- [Rolf Wistrand].
THE PEIRESC-YATES THOMPSON-RAHIR COPY. Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc was a renowned astronomer and patron of science, whose books are adorned by his distinctive Greek cypher; Yates Thompson was considered the greatest manuscript collector of his generation; and Edward Rahir's collection was legendary, dispersed in a series of sales in 1931.
