BOLOGNA 1630 -- NANI, Floriano. Il funerale fatoo dal Senato di Bologna all Illustriss.o et Ecc.mo Sig.r D. Carlo Barberino Generale di S. Chiesa. Bologna: heirs of Benacci, 1630.
4o (193 x 140 mm). Engraved title by GIOVANNI BATTISTA CORIOLANO and engraved folding plate of the funeral procession with attendants (plate with a few repairs along folds on verso, some light creasing at edges). (Some scattered pale spotting.) Later decorated wrappers; red cloth folding case.
This collection of poems, in Italian, Latin and Greek, was published upon the death of CARLO BARBERINI (1562-1630), Duke of Monterotondo and older brother of Pope Urban VIII (Maffeo Barberini). The work was compiled by Floriano Nani and was dedicated to Cardinal Antonio Barberini, grandson of the Pope. A description of the funeral at San Petronio is given, and the plate depicts the elaborate pyramid adorned with symbolic decorations for the occasion. Although the folding plate is not signed, both engravings are the work of the Bolognese painter and engraver Giovanni Battists Coriolano (d. 1649). Frati 2863.
