BONNE, Rigobert (1727-1794), Jean JANVIER and Giovanni Antonio RIZZI-ZANNONI (1736-1814). Atlas moderne ou collection de cartes sur toutes les parties du globe terrestre. Paris: Lattre and Herissant 1762.
4° (403 x 288 mm). Engraved throughout: title, text leaves, double-page plate of an armillary sphere and 35 double-page engraved maps with contemporary hand-color in outline. Late 18th-century red morocco gilt, central coat-of-arms of Louis-Joseph de France (Olivier 2530, fer 8) on sides, triple fillet border, spine in 7 compartments gilt, edges gilt. Provenance: Louis-Joseph de France (1781-1789), second child and elder son of King Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette (binding).
FIRST EDITION. The maps are numbered to 1-36 but no number 25 was issued according to the list of contents. The numbering of the plates skips number 28 and adds 34bis. The titles of the maps are listed correctly. 17 of the maps are by Janvier, 8 by Rizzi-Zannoni, 6 by Bonne and the remainder are unsigned. There were later editions published in 1771-83 and 1787-91. Phillips Atlases 629.
