Contemporary black straight-grained morocco, covers with gilt Greek-key roll border enclosing narrow roll-tool border, large double gilt-ruled central panel with small floral cornerpieces on studded background, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, gilt ornaments in the rest, the upper and lower compartments with studded background, turn-ins and board-edges gilt, edges gilt concealing a DOUBLE FORE-EDGE PAINTING OF MOUNTAIN SCENERY NEAR MONTEREY RIVER AND MONTEREY BAY AND HARBOUR (corners bumped, lower cover lightly scuffed).
