Half title in volume one, folding engraved map, lithographed portrait of the author, 3 folding facsimiles, 6 wood-engraved plates and 8 chromolithographed (first facsimile letter with some repairs affecting text, 2 chromolithographs with shorter margins and light waterstaining in upper margin, occasional light soiling, mainly thumb-soiling, stronger towards the end of both vols., map with a few repairs at folds). 20th-century cloth (spines sunfaded). FIRST EDITION of Bowring's account of his mission to Siam in 1855 to conclude a commercial treaty. Cordier Indosinica 977.
