    CASAS, Bartolomé de las (1484-1566). Il supplice schiavo indiano, the Italian translation by Marco Ginammi. Venice: Marco Ginammi, 1636. 4° (124 x 144mm). Parallel text in double column, Spanish in roman and Italian in italic type. Woodcut device and opening initials. (Marginal repairs to D4, E2, E6 and G4, the last affecting one letter of text on verso, a little spotting, G7 with paper fault causing slight loss, lesser paper fault to final leaf.) Early 20th-century onlaid brown morocco gilt, sides with a polychrome design of strapwork and scrolling foliage centering upon the shield of Aragon, gilt turn-ins and doublures of red satin, gilt edges. Provenance: purchased from José Porter, 1957.

    FIRST ITALIAN EDITION of the Tratado ... sobre la materia de los indios, first published separately in Seville, 1552, and included in the Obras of the same year. This copy in a magnificent armorial binding. Sabin 11246; Salvá II, 3287; Palau III, 46956.
