CATHARINA DE ALEXANDRIA (Saint, 4th century). Leggenda di Sancta Caterina d'Allesandria. [Rome: Eucharius Silber?, after 1500].
Chancery 4° (205 x 140mm). Collation: a10 (a1r full-page woodcut of St. Catherine, a1v incipit 'IN nome del trino & uno dio...', a10v blank). 10 leaves. Full-page woodcut of St. Catherine (164 x 93mm) within 4-part border, woodcut initials. (Three small wormholes.) Modern vellum, grey linen folding box.
UNIQUE copy of an unrecorded edition. The text is the Legend of St. Catherine of Alexandria in verse. The edition is close to one printed at Rome by Besicken and Martinus de Amsterdam, c.1500 (HR 4703) in which the same title-page woodcut portrait of the saint appears. There are minor variations in the text between the two editions: the present edition has a 4-part border added to the woodcut, and two additional prayers at the end.
