FIRST EDITION of Horschelt's Field Sketches. Horschelt made these sketches between 1858 and 1863 when he fought on the Russian side in the Caucasus War, having volunteered to join the staff of General Baryatinski. It was for drawings of this period that Horschelt was elected to the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. Together with, laid in: a photographic portrait of a Dagestani military leader, inscribed to 'Adolf Karlovich', Berlin 1922; and a typsecript transcription of Horschelt's biography from Karl von Seeger's Imam Shamil.
