(Title with small piece torn from margin, occasional staining, particularly affecting quires P-U, K3 with small burn hole in headline, without final blank.) Red morocco by Duru 1852, gilt-lettered spine compartments, gilt turn-ins, gilt and marbled edges, later supralibros. Provenance: purchased from Librería Babra, 1937.
'BUENA IMPRESIóN en excelente papel' states Palau. As the title indicates, it was copied from Juan de la Cuesta's first edition in quarto, published earlier the same year. Editions also appeared at Barcelona, Valencia, Pamplona, and Lisbon in 1617, testifying to the immense popularity of the author who finished this romance, with its mixture of the fabulous and the real, only shortly before his death.
