FIRST EDITION, second issue with 191 pages (the first issue had 228 pages). A surreptitious edition, preceded by the Newport edition (of volume 1 only) and a periodical printing. This is an unauthorized reissue of fragments detached from the author's journals as they appeared in the Gotha periodical. The preface to the first complete edition, Voyages de M. le marquis de Chastellux dans l'Amérique septentrional (Paris, 1786, v. 1, p. 6-7), names Cassel as the place of publication for these surreptitious editions.
