CHURCHILL, Winston S. Great Contemporaries. London: Thornton Butterworth, Ltd., 1937. 8o. 21 illustrations. Original blue cloth stamped in gilt, top edge blue.
FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY TO STANLEY BALDWIN, inscribed on half-title: "To S. B. from W.S.C. October 1937." A terse inscription that reflects the great divisions that emerged between these two former colleagues, particularly during Baldwin's last ministry, 1935-1937, when he and Churchill repeatedly clashed over German rearmament and the abdication crisis of Edward VIII. Woods A43(A).
