Additional engraved title, one double-page folding map of Africa and 42 maps and views. (One map nearly torn in half at centre fold, clean long tear in margin of Y4, margins of engraved title and printed title browned, some light browning, light marginal soiling or spotting). Contemporary panelled calf (rebacked, new endpapers, corners bumped, some rubbing). Provenance: Theological Institute of Connecticut (blindstamped library stamp on printed title).
FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH. 'An important early work on Africa in general, which was trnaslated into several European languages. The original edition was published in Amsterdam in 1668' (Mendelssohn I, pp.413-14). Brunet II, 520.
