Uncut in the original green cloth (edges lightly rubbed). Provenance: Lund Cathedral (stamps). FIRST EDITION. Unusual in having two illustrations (figs. 7 and 8) after Darwin's own drawings. 'These meticulous studies form a minor contribution to the evolutionary series by the study of the adaptations of such plants to impoverished conditions' (Freeman p.149). Freeman 1217; Norman 601. (Preliminaries and title lightly spotted, a few leaves with marginal light creasing.) Uncut in original green cloth (edges lightly rubbed, rear inner hinge cracking). Provenance: R.C.A. Prior (typed booklabel, penciled initials) -- Nils Fries (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. 'Had Darwin not chosen such genetically complex examples, he might have approached more nearly to an understanding of the laws of particulate inheritance' (Freeman, p. 155). Freeman 1277.
