GAY, John (1685-1732). Fables. London: for C. Hitch [and others], 1757, 2 volumes in one, 8°. Engraved frontispiece by Scotin after Gravelot and 66 engraved illustrations by Vandergucht after William Kent, Wotton and Gravelot (a little discolouration and soiling). Early 20th-century tree calf, sides and compartments of spine panelled in gilt.
And 22 other volumes including An Abridgement of the New Robinson Crusoe (London, 1789), Love-Letters from King Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn (London, 1714) and William Shakespeare's A Wittie and Pleasant Comedie called The Taming of the Shrew (London, 1631 [but an 18th-century reprint]). (24)
