FLONCEL, Albert-François (1697-1773) – Catalogo della Libreria Floncel. Paris: Cressonier, 2 May 1774. Two volumes in one, 8° (195 x 125mm). (Without half-title of vol. 1 or blanks, small repair in margin of 2i1 in vol. 2.) Near-contemporary polished mottled calf, spine gilt in compartments, contrasting morocco lettering pieces, sides with gilt roll-tooled border, gilt edges (front cover detached, small old repair to lower joint, corners rubbed). Provenance: Thomas Frognall Dibdin (1776-1847).
THE DIBDIN COPY. PRICED throughout in a fine contemporary hand in red ink, and also part annotated in another hand in black ink. This 7,984-lot catalogue describes the largest 18th-century collection of Italian books formed outside of Italy and is the only 18th-century French sale catalogue to be printed in a foreign language. Guigard comments that this was a magnificent collection and the ‘Catalogue très curieux et très recherché’ (Guigard, 1890). Blogie II, col. 12; Guigard II, p.217; North 225.
