Peking the Beautiful. Shanghai: The Commercial Press, Limited, 1927. 4° (395 x 315 mm). Half-title. Frontispiece and 70 photographic plates mounted, numerous illustrations in text. (title with light marginal finger-soiling, some insignificant offsetting onto text leaves.) Original embroidered silk padded pictorial boards, edges uncut (extremities rubbed, lower joint splitting), contained in the original decorative box (worn, with crude tape repairs, one side missing).
FIRST EDITION, with an introduction by Hu Shih, former Professor of Philosophy at the National University of Peking, comprising photographic studies of the celebrated monuments of China’s northern capital with descriptive and historical notes. Rare with original box.
