Octavo pamphlet (210 x 130 mm). Text engraved throughout by Beaublé. Two engraved plates. (Short marginal tears to deckle edges expertly repaired.) Dark blue morocco by Cuzin, signed, spine with raised bands, one compartment lettered directly in gilt, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: ‘H.L.’ (bookplate with crowned monogram and inventory number 3782).
An uncommon pamphlet, with finely-executed plates attributed to Moreau le jeune, based on the cases of Louis Hainault (d.1773) and Marie Augé (b.1755). According to WorldCat the copy in the Bibliothèque nationale lacks the plates; not in Wellcome. Cohen-DeRicci 425; Gay-Lemonnyer II, 390.
