Contemporary Russian mottled calf (spine foot chipped, joints starting, corners rubbed). Provenance: a Russian reader (indistinct title signature) -- Martin Winkler (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Ivan IV's reform of the law code shifted power from the aristocracy to State and local institutions. This edition was prepared by G.F. Miller from the manuscript owned by Vasilii Tatishchev.
