Engraved folding plate of the tomb of Ferdinando I de' Medici. (Blank lower corner of title repaired, a few pale dampstains.) Contemporary vellum. Provenance: Jean-Baptiste Colbert (1619-83), statesman and minister to Louis XIV (inscription on title). The funerary celebration of Ferdinando I de' Medici (1549-1609) in Venice. [With:] BUONAVENTURI, Tommaso. Esequie della Maesta Cesarea dell'Imperatore Leopold I. Florence: Stamperia di S.A.R. for Anton Maria Albizzini, 1705. 4° (234 x 168mm). 3 engraved plates by F. Antonia Lorenzini after Antonio Ferri (second plate with horizontal stain along central fold, a few repaired tears, some pale spotting.) Modern quarter diced russia. Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, organized these obsequies for Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, in the family-church of the Medicis, the San Lorenzo in Florence. The plates show the facade, the elaborate funeral decorations within the church and the chapel after the designs of Antonio Maria Ferri, court architect for Cosimo III.
