Publisher's cloth gilt (extremities a little rubbed). Second edition.

Folding engraved frontispiece, vignette of Lewes Castle on title, 2 plates and one map (outer margin of title soiled, a few leaves detached, lightly browned throughout). Late 19th-century wrappers. Provenance: Cornelius Paine (ownership inscription on pastedown and title) -- John Brown (bookplate) -- W. H. Willis (bookplate on verso of title and rear pastedown).
