16 volumes, 8o. Half-titles, titles printed in blue and black. 20th-century red crushed levant morocco, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands gilt, gilt ship tools in 4, top edges gilt, others uncut.
LIMITED EDITION, number 392 of 750 copies of the "Standard Edition." Volume 13 contains the first printing of Billy Budd. The novella was unfinished at the time of Melville's death, and was undiscovered until 1919; Raymond M. Weaver, Melville's first biographer, discovered it while studying his papers. (16)
