MODENA 1660 -- GRAZIANI, G. Il trionfo della virtu, festa d'armi a cavallo, rappresentata Nella Nascita del Serenissimo Signor Principie di Modana l'anno MDCLX. Modena: Bartolomeo Soliani, 1660.
4o (266 x 185 mm). 27 etched folding plates after FRANCESCO STRINGA (the largest with title just shaved at bottom, some creasing and a few short tears). (Some pale spotting.) Contemporary Italian speckled calf, spine gilt (some rubbing).
Graziani describes the elaborate festivities held on honor of the birth of FRANCESCO II D'ESTE (1660-1694), Duke of Modena. The pageant was arranged by the architects GIOVANNI GIACOMO MONTI and BALTHAZAR BIANCHI in exquisitely lavish style: represented in the plates are the combats of horsemen, rocks with cascades emerging from a pool, knights, ballets and huge infernal monsters, among other spectacles. Ruggieri 811 (25 plates only); Vinet 590 (28 plates); Watanabe 536.
