2o (292 x 206 mm). Typographical ornament, woodcut initials, head-and-tail pieces. (First two leaves with small marginal repairs at gutter, some browning and dampstaining.) Old vellum, manuscript titler on spine (endpapers renewed), Provenance: given by Archer M. Huntington to the Hispanic Society in 1946 (pencil note on endpaper).
FIRST EDITION. "This work contains biogrtaphies of Columbus, Alonso de Ojeda, Cortez, the four Pizarros, Diego de Almargo, and Diego Garcia de Paredes, in which the treachery and brutality of the conquerors in treatment of the Indians is palliated and defended. It is, in fact, an extended panegyric on the Pizarros; and together with the appended 'Discurso Legal y Politico,' whih is a long memorial to Philip IV, was written for the purpose of stating their services, and soliciting a confirmationof former grants and remuneration to their descendants" (Sabin 63189).
