PORCACCHI, Tommaso (c.1530-1585). L'Isole piu famose del mondo. Venice: S. Galignani and G. Porro, 1576 [colophon dated 1575]. 2° (296 x 200mm). Engraved title, and 47 engraved maps in the text by G. Porro. (Mostly marginal light dampstaining, some soiling.) Later vellum, lettered in manuscript up the spine, sprinkled edges (a few stitches sometime repaired).
The second edition of this celebrated book of islands, with 17 more maps than the first of 1572, including two of the eight maps relating to the Americas: Jamaica and 'San Giovanni detta Borichen', i.e., Puerto Rico. Porro's fine engravings also include two world maps and a version of Forlani's important map of North America. Adams P-1905; Phillips 167; Sabin 64149.
