Frontispiece portrait, 6 engraved plates, 1 folding, and 4 maps, 3 folding. (Occasional light browning and spotting.) Contemporary half calf over marbled paper-covered boards, gilt spine with lettering piece, marbled edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: George Betts of Wortham, Suffolk (armorial bookplate).
SCARCE FIRST EDITION of which only 1500 copies were printed. Four of the plates are by William Daniell, made during his two visits to Java. The panorama of Singapore and its harbour is as viewed from Government Hill. Bastin & Brommer p.6, note 97. Abbey Travel 555 (special copy with 2 extra maps).
