London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, and Orme, 1804. 4°, half title, colour-printed aquatint frontispiece portrait and 6 hand-coloured aquatint plates by Medland after Bell and West, 2 engraved plates, 3 folding letterpress tables (portrait slightly spotted, title soiled and a little tattered at edges, some staining to plate and text margins, one plate with slight marginal tear, two text leaves holed at margin), uncut in contemporary marbled boards (rebacked and recornered).
FIRST ISSUE, retaining pp. 215-220 which concern the controversy over the Manton Patent Breech. This copy is also unusual in having the portrait of Thornton coloured. Abbey Life 393; Chute 632; Schwerdt II, p. 258.
