Contemporary dark blue straight-grained morocco, covers with gilt borders, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered in 3, repeated gilt ornament in the rest, edges gilt concealing alternating fore-edge paintings of NEW YORK AND PHILADELPHIA IN 1750 (rebacked, old spines laid down, joints and corners rubbed). Provenance: Francis Darby, Colebrookdale (bookplate on lower paste-down endpaper, volume 5 only); Edward Laurence Doheny (bookplate); Estelle Doheny (bookplate; her sale Christie's Camarillo California, 2 February 1988, lot 659).
