SOLINUS, Gaius Julius (fl. 3rd century). Polyhistor, sive De mirabilus mundi, sive Collectanea rerum memorabilium. Venice: [Guilelmus Anima Mia, Tridinensis], 13 January 1493/94. Super-chancery 4° (210 x 150mm). Roman type. (Ownership inscription cut out from top margin of a2, occasional waterstaining, mainly marginal, a few wormholes at beginning.) Modern vellum. Provenance: Brescia, monastery of St. Barabus, brothers Aurelius and Miles (early inscription, annotations).
RARE, no copies recorded in ABPC in the past 35 years. Solinus describes wonders of the world derived largely from the natural history of Pliny and the geography of Pomponius Mela. BMC suggests that this book may be the work of some other printer using type discarded by Anima Mia. HC* 14881; BMC V 412; IGI 9090; BSB-Ink S-484; CIBN S-307; Bod-inc S249; Klebs 922.8; Goff S-621.
