Original faux-leopard skin; original cardboard box, title label mounted on front side; cloth folding box. Provenance: Ralph Gibson (b.1939), American photographer (inscription from Calle).
FIRST EDITION. A FINE PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER TO RALPH GIBSON: "This exchange of women for Ralph from Sophie". The inscription may refer to Gibson's Infanta which was published in the same year, and which he may have presented to Calle. A "beautifully produced book", La fille du docteur considers issues of gender and desire "with complexity and subtlety, though with an admirable economy of means" (The Photobook).
