[but 1821]. 16 hand-coloured plates (each c.380 x c485mm to the plate-mark on sheets c.445 x c.570mm), 12 of these engravings, and 4 of these lithographs, by Mansfield, Erhard, Klein, Beyer and others, after Stubenrauch, Schindler and Höchle. (Without title, some spotting, some soiling, one plate with some oxidisation.) Mounted and bound in an oblong 2° album (540 x 710mm), later French red half morocco, spine in compartments with gilt fillets, sides with gilt rules, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt (front hinge split, lower joint starting, binder's blanks with some wear and spotting, some mounts loosening at stubs). Provenance: A. Balsan (engraved bookplate and manuscript inventory number 105).
A fine series of military costume and equestrian plates published by Artaria, Vienna's leading publisher of prints at the time. Various Imperial mounted regiments are represented, including Life-Guards, Cuirassiers, Uhlans, Dragoons, and others, including Grenadiers, Jäggers, etc. Rare: ABPC apparently records no other copy selling at auction in over 35 years.
