VAN MAELE'S RARE 'GRANDE SUITE DE LA LEGENDE', his large-format engravings inspired by Chambley, and one of his masterpieces, characteristically surreal, dark, and humorous. According to a book in preparation, Martin van Maele, le diable se cache dans les détails, Van Maele published his 'Grande Suite' in 1905 or 1906. The plates were issued separately and a complete set is rare. Here they are bound with Brancart's edition of the text. AE and ABPC record only one set of the large format plates: the Nordmann copy (his sale, Christie’s Paris, 27 April 2006, lot 411). Dutel 445.
