Two parts in one, 2o (291 x 202 mm). Engraved title, engraved section title for Strozzi's oration, portrait of Cosimo II and 16 full-page engraved illustrations in text, woodcut printer's device at end. (Some minor spotting and soiling.) Contemporary Italian limp vellum.
A description of the funeral proceedings of COSIMO II DE' MEDICI (1590-1621), Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1609-1621. Eight of the illustrations are of allegorical paintings by MATTIO INGOLI hanging in the Church of S.S. Giovanni e Paolo in which the service was held. The plate of the scene within the church is signed by FRANCESCO VALEGGIO. Cosimo II was succeeded by his oldest son, who reigned as Ferdinando II. The text of Giulio Strozzi's oration delivered at the funeral follows the general description. Berlin 3201; Ruggieri 777; Vinet 609.
