Half title, etched portrait of the author by Philippe Zilcken (some staining mainly at margins of text). Later mustard-yellow morocco gilt by R. Laurent, top edges gilt, others uncut, slipcase, original pink wrappers bound in. WITH 10 ORIGINAL FULL-PAGE PEN, INK AND WASH DRAWINGS BY ARMAND APOL, EACH SIGNED, BOUND AT THE END AND 7 ORIGINAL DRAWINGS IN THE TEXT. Armand Adrien Marie Apol (1879-1950), Belgian artist, highly influenced by the Fauves. He was particularly renowned for his riverside and canal scenes. The book is indistinctly inscribed and signed by him and dated 5 April 1930. See Benezit.
