VIENNA 1699 -- [PRINTS]. HAEBICH, Christoph (1683-1722). Mezzotint of an elaborate firework display at night. 499 x 380 mm, narrow margins.
A beautiful large-scale mezzonint of the night-time firework display for the wedding of JOSEPH I and AMALIA WILHELMINE of Brunswick in Vienna. The numbers identifying the various fireworks employed in the display appear to be in manuscript, along with Haebich's signature. The wedding took place in Vienna; this may record a celebration there or in one of the many towns that hosted festivities. VERY RARE and apparently unrecorded, only mentioned in Thieme-Becker and Benezit, both of which identify the date of 1699.
