    Lot Essay

Achilles is a legendary Greek hero and the central character of Homers' Iliad. The relief cast panels on this clock are depicting two non-Homeric themes concerning his upbringing and his death, the first scene represents Thetis dipping Achilles, making his body invulnerable except for his heel by which she held him, the central panel to the plinth is depicting Achilles and the King of Troy.
