SEMAINE (THOMAS WEEKS), LONDON, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The white enamel Roman dial signed 'Semaine', within a rectangular case surmounted by a winged helmet and billing doves, flanked by a winged youth holding a shield inscribed 'AMOUR ET GLOIRE', on a plinth mounted with wreaths on bun feet, the shield and sword stamped 'LJ', detatched elements, the single chain fusee movement with dead beat escapement on backplate
16¾ in. (42.5 cm.) high; 12 in. (30.5 cm.) wide; 16½ in. (16.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

The celebrated Haymarket emporium established by the clock-maker jeweller Thomas Weeks (1743-1834) was titled 'The Royal Mechanical Museum' from 1788. Weeks retailed both French and English clocks signing them 'Semaine'.
