A. Causey, Edward Burra, Oxford, 1985, no. 69, illustrated (recto).
It is likely that the reverse of the present work, Figures at a party, was executed at an earlier date than the recto, Seamen Ashore, Greenock, possibly in the 1920s. Andrew Causey dates the recto as circa 1944.
