    Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Erik La Prade for his assistance in cataloguing this work.
The present work is consistent with artist's drawings reproduced in Yesterday's Children, a narrative poem written by Parker Tyler and illustrated by Tchelichew. Published in 1944, it contained twenty-nine black and white reproduced drawings. Some of the drawings are simple compositions of children fighting or exploring the landscape, while other drawings are complex examples of Tchelitchew's Leaf Children series. The present work was not included in the published book but may be a variant of two drawings published on pages 3-4 of the book, sometimes referred to as The Clothes Line, dated 1940.
