PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF A PRIVATE EUROPEAN FAMILY (LOTS 594-633 INCLUSIVE)Christie’s is delighted to offer for sale this selection of 40 lots from a distinguished European collection. The collection was lovingly amassed in a relatively short time, between 1956 and 1959. The collectors, who were diplomats stationed in Beijing, recall fondly their nearly daily trips to antique markets and dealers in Beijing, which led to a long-lasting and reliable cooperation. The collectors, who were drawn to every aspect of Chinese culture, spent all their free time learning about China, collecting art and also learning to paint in Chinese style. The selection of works of art on offer here is a true testament to the collectors' great taste, ranging from porcelain, metalwork and mainly furniture. A further selection of works of art from the collection will be offered in our King Street rooms on the 10th of November.
